Type Locality and Naming

By the village of Gumata, Mt. Baysuntau. E.D. Bezuglov et al. in 1980 based on materials by V.M. Velitchenko and A.A. Popova (1966) (460, p. 212).

Synonym: Gumatag Suite, Гуматагская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Conglomerate-breccia limestones, polymictic conglomerates and gravelites, arkosic sandstones, quartz and mica siltstone (aleurolites). O.I. Nikitina et al. (1993) note the presence of rhyolites and their tuffs, tuffites. Thickness 250m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies with angular unconformity on the Alachapan Fm

Upper contact

It is unconformably overlain by basalts of the Kayrak-Perm Fm.

Regional extent

South of the Baysuntay Range.

Fossils

In boulders, early Gzhelian foraminifers - Triticites refertus Bensh, T. Dictyoclostus tjanshanica Bensh (102) are present.


Age 

Based on these data and stratigraphic position, an early Permian age is established. V.M. Velitchenko and A.A. Popov (1966) based on identified Bashkirian, Kasimovian, and Gzhelian foraminifers found in limestone fragments from the basal conglomerates of the suite, accept a late Carboniferous (Gzhelian) - early Permian age for these deposits. F.R. Bensh (102; 107) considers them late Carboniferous, Gzhelian.
